PAMLICO EMERGENCY/COMMUNICATIONS NET
There were 16 WinLink check-ins and 21 voice check-ins for the Pamlico
Emergency/Communications Net last Wednesday, October 29th. Likely due to
a Microsoft “upgrade”, the EchoLink server was unstable. Four members
appear on the server log (K2ONN, K2TNO, KR4ABZ, KO4MHM) and Mike gave
them credit. Charlie, K04YWM, will have the honors for the month of
November.
BIT BUCKET
–“Cedar Island Mark”, K1MAP, recently donated two new Baofeng UV-5R Pro
HTs to PARS for graduates of Bill Michne’s Amateur Radio License course.
In a email he said that for the past year he’s been buying these radios
in bulk, programming them and then passing them along at cost “…for
the purpose of getting young folks and newly retired folks interested in
Ham Radio.” These are for two new hams “who just passed their test.”
What a great idea. Thank you Mark!
–After the Pamlico Communications Team Meeting on Saturday, seven
strong members spent several hours taking antennas down and removing
coax at the Banks residence. The antennas (and all his equipment
earlier) were donated to PARS by the family of Tommy Banks, W4XMT, a
long time member and now a silent key. Photos are on the Pamlico Amateur
Radio Society Facebook page.
–Sponsored by the Oriental History Museum, Bruce, K4ONC, will give
another overview of the General Mobile Radio Service and how it can
support the Pamlico County community, be it for fun, family or in an
emergency. It will be at 6:30pm, Thursday November 6th, at the Oriental
Town Hall.
–Evaluation of a possible C4FM net will continue this Monday at 7:30pm
on the KO4OJC Baird Creek repeater. Last week, members joined via radio
and the internet (KO4OJC-Room 3). All with a C4FM capability are welcome.
