PAMLICO EMERGENCY/COMMUNICATIONS NET
There were 15 WinLink check-ins and 18 voice check-ins for the Pamlico
Emergency/Communications Net last Wednesday, December 3rd. Of the 18
voice check-ins two were via EchoLink (K2ONN Bermuda Run and K2TNO
Greensboro). Members were requested to switch to the KO4OJC YSF repeater
on Baird Creek and listen for a call on FM. Ten members responded, all
loud and clear. Mike K4NLC, will call the net again this coming
Wednesday and during the rest of December. Wayne KO4OJC takes it in
January, Jim AI4WL in February.

This coming Wednesday, after the normal check-in and any announcements,
Mike will ask those that are local (using RF) to SWITCH TO FM SIMPLEX on
146.55 MHz and listen for a call. It likely will be from Bruce who
expects to operate from Station 19. Please provide a signal report.
After check-ins are complete we will return to the Oriental repeater to
close out the net. FM Simplex is a “contingent’ voice communication
means in our current PACE PLAN.

BIT BUCKET………..
— A NEW NET FOR C4FM. STARTING TONIGHT, December 8th, after several
weeks of evaluation, the “Wayne’s World C4FM Net”, will replace the
“Pamlico 10 Meter Net”. It will capitalize on the renewed interest in
the digital modes, particularly C4FM, here and world wide. It provides a
meeting place–a discussion round-table–for local users via RF
(146.310MHz) and remote users via Wires-X room “KO4OJC-Room 3” (DTMF ID
64163). Join us when you can.
— Mark K1MAP turned on three BEACONS located at his place out on Cedar
Island before he headed south: 144.282MHz w4fws, 222.055 k1map, and
432.305 k1map. If you can hear any of them please let Mark know at
map92map@gmail.com or text at (413)566-8118.
— YOUR ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL INFORMATION IS IN THE MAIL. Our
wonderful Treasurer, Gail “Wally” Wallace, expects to get your forms to
you this week. They have been updated so please complete them and return
them with your dues as soon as you can.

ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. Radio blackouts reached the R3 level,
one over the Pacific lasting 15-20 minutes according to
spaceweather.com. The Space Weather Prediction Center expects solar
activity to be moderate with a slight chance for an X-class flare today,
Tuesday and Wednesday. Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level are likely
on the sunlit side of the Earth.

There are 7 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this
morning. There were 6 last Monday, 6 the Monday before.

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 194,
last Sunday’s was 180. The index is predicted to measure 190 today, 190
Tuesday and 185 on Wednesday. The more important SFI 90 day trailing
average was 148 yesterday. It was 144 last Sunday.

The geomagnetic field was quiet to active to quiet yesterday. The SWPC
expects the field be quiet bu reach minor storm levels today and
Wednesday, be at minor to severe storm levels on Tuesday. The planetary

Look for poor conditions during the day on 80 and 40 Meters, good at
night; good day and night on 30 to 15; good day, poor at night on 12 and
10. As always, we recommend you go to https://www.n4prs.org/looking-up/
for the latest observations, take them with a grain of salt, then turn
on your radio and make a bunch of contacts.

NEW FOR SALE: Since our HOA does not allow outside antennas, no need to
hang on to the following coax cable:
1. Davis RG213, 140 feet, used but like new (was fully enclosed in PVC
conduit), $100 (71 cents/ft).
2. Davis RG213, 108 feet, new, $80 (74 cents/ft).
3. Davis RG213, 70 feet, used but very good condition (outside for about
2 years), $40 (57 cents/ft).
4. RG213 part # 59912 (no brand name but used outdoors for years with no
issues), 52 feet, new, $30 (58 cents/ft)
RG213 is very reliable due to rugged construction. The solid PE

at bends. I used nothing but RG213 for over 10 years in CT for HF, VHF
