PARS BREAKFAST MEETING THIS COMING SATURDAY
Our next meeting will be at 0900 this Saturday, Feb 22nd, at Brantley’s
Village Restaurant on Broad Street in Oriental. Please park on the side or
out back.  Our meetings are held the last Saturday of each month except June
when the club participates in the annual ARRL Field Day or when in conflict
with a major holiday. After a short business meeting, Bill will lead an open
discussion on “DXing, Logging and QSLing”.  Here’s a good chance to talk
about your favorite logging program. We hope to see you all there. For more
information contact Pamlico Amateur Radio Society President Bill Olah,
KR4LO, 249-0287 or w_olah@yahoo.com.

NORTH CAROLINA QSO PARTY THIS SUNDAY
Our North Carolina state QSO Party will be this coming Sunday, February
23rd, from 10 AM to 8 PM local time. The object is for NC stations to work
as many NC counties, States, Canadian provinces and DXCC countries as
possible. We exchange our call sign and county (PAM or PAMlico) for the call
sign and NC county or State or Country of the other station. Signal report
is optional. Digital has been added to phone and CW modes and there are new
categories for portables and rovers. For more info go to:
http://www.ncqsoparty.org. The QSO Party comes the day after our February
PARS meeting. Be prepared, Pamlico County contacts are in demand!

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was at moderate levels during the 24
hours ending Sunday night at 5 pm local. The largest solar event of the
period was a M1 event observed at 16/0926Z from Region 1977. There are
currently 5 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. The Sunspot count this
morning is 137 well down from the 180 we saw last Monday morning. The Solar
Flux, slow to follow, is at 154, not that much down from the 167 NOAA
reported last Monday and near our 90 day trailing average.  Over the weekend
and after days of  nonstop activity, big sunspot AR1974 is quieting reducing
the chance for strong X-class solar flares.  Solar activity is expected to
be moderate  today and then low with chance for M-class flares through
Wednesday. The Solar Flux is expected to fall to around 135 by then.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to minor storm
levels over the weekend. The estimated planetary K-index at 7 am local today
was 1. The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels
today and quiet on Tuesday and Wednesday.

QSO CORNER

Stations, or special QSO’s you would like to share.

Jamie King KJ4JK, our Winter escapee to the warm climes of Florida, runs the
RV-Service Net on Tuesday mornings from 0700-0800.  He wants all to know
that this net, the RV Service Net, is an open net (anyone is welcome) that
meets daily between 0700 and 0900 Eastern time on 7.191 MHz.. Just put in
your call sign when you have the opportunity.  Last week he had 43 check-in
during his hour as net controller.  If nothing else, you get real world
weather reports from all over the country and often from Canadian Hams.
Those reports make you appreciate how benign our weather really is!
