SUGGESTIONS WANTED
PARS planners are again asking for ideas/suggestions for our
club meetings.  What do you want to talk about, discuss, learn, or even
build? Let Bill or Randy know, put a comment on our N4PRS Web Site, or reply
to this PARSgram.  Bill Olah, KR4LO, 249-0287  or w_olah@yahoo.com.
Thanks.

N4PRS AT THE NORTH CAROLINA QSO PARTY?
The North Carolina QSO Party, sponsored by the Raleigh Amateur Radio
Society, will be held on Sunday,February 28, 2016, from 1000 EST to 2000
EST. Bill, WM3X, and others would like to see more PARS member participation
in this event, especially participation by our newer hams. Thoughts include
operating several home stations in the event. Station owners would host
newer operators and those without HF stations or those that just want to get
together. The N4PRS club call would be assigned to one of the stations or
perhaps shared on a rotating basis using time slots or even by band.
Pamlico has been a much sought after County in the past so contacts should
be easy. For more information about the NC QSO Party see
http://www.rars.org/ncqsoparty/   Let Bill know what you think at
billmichne@embarqmail.com or just reply to this PARSgram. Let’s talk about
this at our January meeting.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was very low during the 24 hours ending
yesterday at 4 pm local.  The largest recent solar event was a B4  flare
observed at 1121Z this morning. There are 6 numbered sunspot regions on the
disk facing Earth. The sunspot count this morning is 73, up from the 50
reported by NOAA last week ago. The Solar Flux Index (SFI) was 109 yesterday
at noon,  almost the same as the 107 in our last report.  According to the
Space Weather Prediction Center, solar activity is expected to continue to
be very low for the next three days with only a chance of C-class flares..
The  NOAA forecast has the SFI staying about the same through Wednesday. The
90 day trailing average is up 2 to 111.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday.  Expect quiet conditions
today. The field is forecast to be quiet but see minor storm levels on
Tuesday On Wednesday the field is forecast vary between quiet and active.
The Kp-index was reported to be a quiet 2 at 11a.m. local this morning.

Expect good conditions on 80 through 20 Meters, fair to poor on the higher
bands. Watch for E-layer propagation on 6 Meters. Yesterday, Puerto Rico was
loud in Whortonsville on 6 Meters as was Southern Texas.

THIS WEEK’S DX CHALLENGE
K5P PALMYRA DXPEDITION. Look for 9 operators to be active as K5P from
Palmyra Atoll, South Pacific, this week between January 12-25th. They
will have five stations, with activity on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB
and the Digital modes. Check the K5P Palmyra2016 Web page for updates,
propagation predictions and the donation page, at: http://palmyra2016.org

VP8SGI/VP8STI DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release from the Intrepid-DX Group
VP8STI/VP8SGI Team). (Courtesy of the Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin #1248, Editor
Tedd Mirgliotta, KB8NW)
The VP8STI/VP8SGI Team is on the way to meet the Braveheart. Let the
voyage begin! — The VP8STI/VP8SGI team is now making their way to Stanley,
The Falkland Islands for the eight day voyage to Southern Thule Island
(South Sandwich). During our voyage, will be active as VP8IDX/MM. We will
be making notes of propagation on each band.
Our route will take us along the treacherous Drake Passage, known for
rough seas and bad weather. We expect to land on Southern Thule Island
(South Sandwich) and begin operations as VP8STI on January 18th.
Upon completion of our mission, we will voyage three days to Husvik Bay,
South Georgia where we expect to land and begin operations sometime on
February 1st as VPGSGI.
On February 14th, we will return to Stanley. We will operate as VP8IDX
until February 19th. Look for us on 160 meters!
Our goals are to operate fast and efficiently and to provide as many
all-time new contacts with these rare entities. We will make the extra
effort to work the most remote and difficult regions.
All of our plans are going very well. We have raised 75% of the funds
needed to complete our Dxpedition. We are very extremely grateful for
all Foundation, Club and Individual support.
We have updated our QSL page and OQRS will be live as soon as we complete
each activation. We will make every effort to upload our logs to Clublog
each day. We expect to have challenges in doing so as at 59 degrees South,
Southern Thule Island is outside of the Inmarsat BGAN coverage footprint.
We will make very limited updates to our website during the Dxpedition
for this reason. New donors will be added once we return to Stanley in
mid-February.
We have enabled a new feature on our website where you can follow our
progress and track our location: http://www.intrepid-dx.com/vp8/location.php
We are very excited to be activating the #3 and #8 most wanted DXCC
entities on a combined trip. You can view all details of our Dxpedition at:
http://www.intrepid-dx.com/vp8
Please watch for updates and announcements in The Daily DX, DX-World, DX
Coffee and DX News. [as well as the OPDX!!]
Thank you, and Happy New Year!
