PARSgram 2019-04-09 EXTRA

Editor’s Note-  This is a supplemental issue of our weekly PARSgram. In it, Bill corrects the agenda for our April meeting. We are looking forward to Bill (N2COP) Morine’s visit in May, not April.  Also please note the preferred email address for Bruce, K4ONC. You will also find a report on last Thursday’s ARES training session and an item on Croakerfest as well as three new for sale items.

PRESIDENT’S SOAPBOX
We held the first of our quarterly exam sessions on Saturday at the town hall.  It was lightly attended (we had only one candidate).  Brandy North of Oriental is our newest Technician class licensee.  Congratulations, Brandy!  _…_  Field Day is coming, June 22 and 23.  In the past several of us have purchased Field Day T-shirts from ARRL for the event.  You are certainly free to do that, but VP Bruce, K4ONC, and I would like to promote the club T and polo shirts as well.  How about one of each?  Wear one on Saturday and the other on Sunday.  Let Bruce know which one or both you’d like to buy.  You can contact him by email at K4ONC@aol.com.  _…_  Bruce has been busy.  He is proposing that we set up a portable special event station at Croakerfest this year.  We would run an SSB station and let visitors make contacts, like the GOTA station at Field Day.  To make it work, though, we need operator’s.  If you can operate an hour or so, let Bruce know by email (see above).  _…_  Our next PARS meeting will be on April 27.  We’ll have a review of who is going to do what for Field Day  …_._  de WM3X, Bill Michne, 252-249-1175, drmichne73@gmail.com.

ARES TRAINING

From Mike Marsh, K4NLC, Pamlico County ARES EC–
The ARES training session at Pamlico Community College on 4 April had was well attended with 7 dedicated participants present. We were able to come up with several good topics for future classes. Our next meeting will be on 2 May in room 412 of the Brinson building at 7 p.m. The topic and hands on workshop will be installing and modifying equipment power connectors to be Anderson Powerpole connector compatible. You can get connectors from Powerworks or Amazon. You will need connectors and some red/black wire of the appropriate gauge. We have the crimpers and wire cutters. As we move into another hurricane season it would be wise to have our equipment prepared for ease of activation should the need arise. For more information contact Mike at 252-636-1257 or mike@marshconsulting.org

HELP WANTED FOR CROAKER FESTIVAL AND PARADE
At last months PARS meeting, there was a discussion regarding our participation in this years Croaker Festival and possibly the parade. Our participation would be to operate a Special Event station on Saturday and have an entry in the parade. If you would be willing to participate, even for a short time, please email me your interest in the station or parade or both. I need to gauge the club interest prior to contacting the Croakerfest Committee. Email me at K4ONC@aol.com. Thanks, Bruce Perkins – K4ONC.
