From what I’ve been hearing hurricane damage to our members’ property
was minimal and largely just leaves and tree branches deposited in the
yards. Kudos to the crew that maintained communications between the EOC
in Bayboro and the shelter at the college. I monitored as much as I
could and the operation was first class. Great job! My battery powered
VHF/UHF station performed very well, and didn’t have to go to the backup
battery. I’m looking forward to making it a permanent installation in

A huge thank you to Glenn – N4LV – Bill – KR4LO and Bruce – K4ONC for
making our first activated support for the shelter at PCC a great success!
We have our monthly meeting this Thursday -19 September – at PCC at
1900 in room 411. The primary topic this month will be a hotwash
discussion of what worked and what did not work and where we need to or
want to go in support of the shelter and with ARES support for the
shelter going forward.
Everyone with an AUXCOM/ARES interest is invited to attend.

OVER-THE-AIR TV USERS – CHANNEL RESCAN DAY
For those who actually watch television using an antenna and may have
not seen the announcements, the RF channels of our local “broadcast”
stations will begin to change on Wednesday, September 11th. This is due
to the FCC mandated RF channel repack. The first to move will be PBS 19
(19 to 28), NBC 7 (32 to 34) , PBS 25 Greenville (23 to 25) and FOX 14
(47 to 19). We will need to either rescan all channels or manually
change those above after 0300 on Wednesday. This “rescan day”,
originally scheduled for Sep. 6, was delayed by Hurricane Dorian.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was very low during the 24 hours
ending yesterday at 5 pm local. There are no sunspot regions on the sun
facing earth this morning. Activity will continue to be very low
according to the Space Weather Prediction Center. On Sunday, the
reported Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was a surprising 74. The
index is predicted to register 68 today through Wednesday. The SFI 90
day trailing average is 67.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is
expected to be quiet to unsettled today, and then quiet Tuesday and
Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 3 at 5 a.m. local this morning
indicates we are currently experiencing quiet conditions.
We can expect poor daytime and fair nighttime operating conditions on 80
and 40 meters for the next few days. Poor conditions will continue on
the higher bands.

ABOUT THE PARSgram
The PARSgram is a weekly email publication for members of the Pamlico
Amateur Radio Society (PARS), an association of amateur radio operators
located in, near, or from Pamlico County, North Carolina. The PARSgram
contains announcements and information about current and planned
activities of the Society and other items of specific interest to its
members. Except to summarize information related to Solar Activity and
announce expeditions of amateur radio operators to unique distant
places, special event stations, and contests, it does not generally
repeat information available elsewhere. The PARSgram offers a means to
advertise radio equipment and other related items for sale or trade.
Since PARS members may have limited internet access, the PARSgram has no
