REMINDER–FIELD DAY OPEN STATION
From Bill, WM3X: This is an open invitation to all of our Technician
and General class licensees who have little or no experience operating
single sideband on HF. I will be operating my home station for Field
Day, June 25 and 26, using the club callsign N4PRS. You are invited to
spend an hour or two with me operating the station. You will learn how
to find and tune in stations to call, aim the yagi if needed, make the
contact, exchange the required information, and log the contact. The
purpose is to tweak your interest in getting your own HF station on the
air. The event runs from 2:00 PM Saturday, June 25 thru 5:00 PM Sunday,
June 26. Call (252-671-6703) or email (drmichne73@gmail.com) me to set
up a time for your visit.

[In addition to participating in the N4PRS activation, our members are
encouraged to operate from their home stations using their own call.
Just like last year, aggregate club scores will be calculated and
published in the December QST. PARS Field Day participants should list
our club name with their reported results. Please list your club
affiliation as “Pamlico Amateur Radio Society, LTD” when you send in
your score. Be careful, the club in little Washington has a similar
name. –ed]

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 2 numbered sunspot regions
on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 5 last Monday.

The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low through Wednesday
with a chance for M-class flares. However, according to
SpaceWeather.com, growing sunspot region AR3032 exploded around midnight
last night local time generating an M3-class flare that lasted more than
3 hours. It caused a HF radio blackout over Japan and southeast Asia. A
CME is likely, but not yet confirmed.

At noon yesterday, the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was
121. Last Sunday it was 99. The index is predicted to measure 120 at
noon today, 120 Tuesday and 125 Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing
average is down one to 126.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. NOAA
expects conditions be quiet today and on Tuesday then quiet to unsettled
on Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 2 reported at 5 a.m. local this
morning indicates current quiet geomagnetic conditions.

Like last Monday, we can expect fair day and good nighttime operating
conditions today on 80 to 40 meters, good day and night on 30 and 20.
Conditions should be fair to poor on 12 and 10.

As hoped, this past weekend’s ARRL VHF contest brought out the players.
After a slow start Saturday afternoon, the 6M Magic band offered
Europe-France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Germany-on Sunday
morning, then some West Coast Sideband in the afternoon and then another
quick shot of Europe in the early evening. Hard to decide whether to
work the contest or chase DX. Some did both. As expected, signal levels
were up and down, one minute there, next minute gone.

excellent article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at
