OL’ FRONT PORCH MUSIC FESTIVAL- HELP STILL NEEDED

PARS has been asked to work “closed road barricades”, guide performers

and visitors and coordinate with the festival staff via our radios on

FRIDAY THE 30TH, from about 10am to 7pm. We need to man 6 locations

through the day and give our PARS members stationed at those locations a

break. Please help those that have already volunteered get some relief.

If you have even just a couple of hours on Friday, please help make the

Music Festival a safe and enjoyable event, interact with fellow PARS

members and the community, hear some great music and have fun. Please

call Bruce Perkins, K4ONC, at 252-626-2730 or email K4ONC@aol.com and

tell him you can help.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 5 numbered sunspot regions

on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 2 last Monday. The

Prediction Center expects solar activity to continue to be low with a

40% chance for an M-class flare today, tomorrow and Wednesday. An

X-class flare is possible.

At noon yesterday, the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was

  1. Last Sunday it was 138. The index is predicted to measure 140 at

noon today, then 142 Tuesday and 145 Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing

average was 125 yesterday, up two from last Sunday.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It

should be quiet to unsettled today, Tuesday and Wednesday. The estimated

Kp-index of zero reported at 5 a.m. local this morning indicated very

quiet conditions.

We can expect fair day and good nighttime operating conditions today on

80 to 40 meters and generally good conditions on the higher HF bands

except for 10 meters. Propagation on 10M will be fair, but poor at night.

For an explanation of the numbers used in our PARSgram, see the

excellent article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at
