PARS BREAKFAST MEETING THIS COMING SATURDAY

Our next meeting will be at 0900 Saturday, March 25th at Brantley’s

Village Restaurant on Broad Street in Oriental. Please park along the

side or out back. We hope to see you all there. For more information

contact Pamlico Amateur Radio Society President Mike Marsh, K4NLC,

252-636-1257 or mike@marshconsulting.com.

There’s been lots of activity at the Kershaw (Oriental) Repeater site

this month, expect to hear all about it at the meeting. Also, we’ll all

help to set the plan for the April 15th Fox Hunt. Then there’s the DX on

10 to talk about.  And don’t forget, there’s a chance to draw a $20

Brantleys Restaurant gift certificate.

FOX HUNT UPDATE

So far we have just one sign-up for the April 15th Fox Hunt.  If you

plan to participate please let Dick Goodwin, K4JJW, know at

rgoodwin41@suddenlink.net.  We need about 10 participants to make it a

meaningful event.  Expect a picnic lunch and three prizes for winners.

Although we have tentatively planned a two stage event with finding the

first fox and then receiving the frequency for the second fox, our

planning isn’t firmed up.  We will have a discussion at the next PARS

meeting on the 25th to get a consensus on the kind of fox hunt you’d

like to have…one or two foxes.  If you can’t attend the meeting next

Saturday please be sure to sign up with Dick so that you will receive

details via email up-dates before the hunt on April 15th.

Date   Saturday April 15th

Where…Oriental Fire Station

Time…9:30 to 12:30

Picnic lunch….12:45

3 Prizes to be awarded

BIT ERROR

Last Thursday I reported the passing of John Radtke, KB2NNC, our good

friend and former PARS member. John had just passed on the previous

Monday, March 13th 2023, not on January 13th as I reported in my haste.

I am extremely sorry and sincerely apologize for my error. You can find

John’s obituary at

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The largest recent solar event was a

M1 event 9:47 p.m. Sunday. There are 6 numbered sunspot regions on the

Sun facing Earth this morning.  There were 11 last Monday. The

Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low today through

Wednesday with a 1 in 4 chance of an M-class flare each day.

Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was

  1. Last Sunday’s was 150. The index is predicted to measure 143 today,

140 tomorrow and 140 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was

170 yesterday. It was 172 last Monday.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is

expected be quiet to active today and Tuesday and then quiet on

Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 1 reported at 5 a.m. local this

morning indicates quiet geomagnetic conditions.

For today, HF conditions are expected to be good during the night on 80

-15 Meters, poor during the day. The best conditions are likely to be

found during the day on 17-15 meters. Twelve and 10 meters will be only

fair during the day and then close at night. Check 6M for activity in

the early afternoon.
