The Oriental Repeater has been down for maintenance and a big upgrade.
Expect to hear the latest from the Oriental Repeater Group. Greatly
improved HF propagation has given us opportunity to work ATNOs, some of
them on the higher bands: some reports. Also info on BridgeCom
University courses, remote operation with your iPhone and a few words on
the WM3X-ONC C4FM/Wires-X node as well as the May 27th Fox Hunt. And

ROANOKE DIVISION TOWN HALL TONIGHT

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 6 numbered sunspot regions
on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 9 last Monday, 2 the
Monday before. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low
today through Wednesday. There is a 25% chance for M-class flares today
and Tuesday.
Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was
- Last Sunday’s was 178. The index is predicted to measure 135 today,
130 tomorrow and 125 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was
159 yesterday. It was 164 last Monday.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field reached severe (G4) storm levels yesterday
with a Kp-index above 8. Shortwave transmissions were completely
absorbed inside the Arctic circle at times. According to the prediction
center, strong storm levels are expected today which will again degrade
HF radio especially on the lower HF frequencies and at the poles.
Tomorrow it should be quiet to active and then quiet on Wednesday. The
estimated Kp-index of 6.67 reported at 5 a.m. local this morning
indicates moderate geomagnetic storms underway. The noisy conditions
coincide with yesterday’s arrival of a CME producing auroras seen as far
south as North Carolina, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and California last
night according to spaceweather.com.
HF conditions are expected to be generally poor until the stormy
conditions subside.

April 28. Activity is on 40 to 10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY, and
FT8. QSL to home calls.
–WEST KIRIBATI, T30. Members of the Rebel DX Group are QRV as T30UN
from Tarawa, IOTA OC-017, until May 1. Activity is on 160 to 6
meters using CW, SSB, with multiple stations using FT8 in DXpedition
mode. QSL via Club Log.
–LAKSHADWEEP ISLANDS, VU7. Operators YL2GM and VU2CDP will be QRV as
VU7W from Kavaratti Island, IOTA AS-011, until April 29.
Activity is on 160 to 6 meters using CW, SSB, and FT8. QSL via
YL2GN.
