PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS TEAM (PCT)
At their monthly meeting Saturday, PCT discussion ranged from local
repeater performance and upgrades, early results from last week’s
Eastern Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (EHPC) hurricane preparedness
communications exercise, configuring digital hotspots, to some of the
new computer and cell phone applications for remote station operation.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 5 numbered sunspot regions
on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 6 last Monday, 6 the
Monday before. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be
moderate today through Wednesday. There is better than a 50/50 chance
for an X-class flare each day. Short (R1) HF radio blackouts occurred
yesterday and are likely today on the Sun facing portions of the Earth.
Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was
- Last Sunday’s was 154. The index is predicted to measure 160 today,
160 tomorrow and 160 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was
160 yesterday. It was 158 last Monday.
The geomagnetic field has been quiet to active for the past 24 hours.
Conditions are expected to at active to severe (G3) storm levels today,
unsettled to minor storm levels tomorrow and then quiet to active on
Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 2.00 reported at 5 a.m. local this
morning indicates quiet geomagnetic conditions.
In the near term, HF conditions are expected to be good during the night
on 80-15 Meters, poor to good during the day. The best conditions during
the day and night are likely to be found on 17-15 meters. Twelve and 10
meters will good during the day, poor at night.

–INDONESIA, YB. Special event station 8A100K is QRV until May 13 to
commemorate the 100 years of long-range telegraph communications in
the Netherlands. QSL via operators’ instructions.
