MEETING SCHEDULE CHANGES

* Our next meeting of the Pamlico Amateur Radio Society (PARS) will be

on Saturday, October 28th, the last Saturday of the month. As we

reported last week, the September meeting was not held. Power was out in

Oriental courtesy of TS Ophelia.

* The Pamlico Communications Team (PCT) meeting tentatively scheduled

for October 7th has been cancelled. The next meeting will be on November

4th with the seminar on RF noise remediation. All are welcome.

 

MAYSVILLE HAMFEST NEXT SUNDAY, OCT 8TH–A LAST REMINDER

The MAYSVILLE HAMFEST will be on Sunday, October 8th, at the Rotary Park

Community Center, 704 8th Street. (If coming from New Bern on Business

US-17 turn right on 8th Street.)  Last of the old fashioned tailgating

swapfests, Maysville admission is free. Food is available. There will be

radio raffle at the end of the day as well as hourly prizes. Hours are 8

NOMINATIONS FOR PARS OFFICERS

Pamlico Amateur Radio Society officers are elected at our October

meeting annually. Officers perform their duties from November through

October of the following year.  Our nomination committee has developed a

slate of candidates for the “2024 Year”. The slate will be presented at

the meeting on October 28th. Nominations will also be solicited from the

floor. If there are other members wishing to serve and be nominated for

President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer or if you wish to

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reports that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 6 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center

expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday. There a is a

chance for M-class flares each day. Eight numbered sunspot regions on

the Sun are facing Earth this morning. There were 12 last Monday, 6 the

Monday before.

 

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 161.

Last Sunday’s was 173. The index is predicted to measure 162 today, 162

Tuesday and 162 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 162

yesterday. It was 162 last Sunday. Lots of 162’s!

 

The geomagnetic field was quiet to active Sunday. The SWPC expects the

field to be quiet to active today and on Tuesday, quiet to unsettled

Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 8 am this morning was 2.33

indicating quiet conditions.

 

Today and tomorrow, propagation is expected to be poor on the 80 through

20 meter bands during the day, good at night.  Good conditions during

both day and night are expected for 17 and 15 meter bands. Ten and 12

should be good during the day, poor at night.

DX TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEK–

Extracted from ARLD039 DX news:

–SWAINS ISLAND, KH8.  A group of operators will be QRV as W8S from

October 4 to 17.  Activity will be on 160 to 6 meters using CW, SSB,

RTTY, and FT8.  QSL via LoTW.

–TUVALU, T2.  A group of operators are QRV as T22T from Funafuti,

IOTA OC-015, until October 9.  Activity is on 160 to 6 meters with

ten stations using CW, SSB, and FT8 in DXpedition mode.  QSL via

LoTW.

–EAST KIRIBATI, T32.  Bert, K3AAN/CX3AN will be QRV as T32AN from

Christmas Island from October 4 to 11.  Activity will be holiday

style on 40 to 6 meters using mostly SSB with some CW.  QSL via

EB7DX. QSL via W7YAQ.
