PARS BREAKFAST MEETING THIS COMING SATURDAY
Our next meeting will be at 0900 Saturday, Nov 18th, in the back room of
Brantleys Village Restaurant on Broad Street in Oriental. Please park
along the side or out back. Yes, the meeting is a week earlier than
normal. Brantley’s will be closed on our regular meeting day for the
Thanksgiving holiday.  We hope to see you all there. Come early for
breakfast with your fellow hams. For more information contact Pamlico
Amateur Radio Society President Bruce Perkins, K4ONC, 252-626-2730 or
K4ONC@aol.com

Erik Kindle, Fire Chief/Paramedic at Station 19, Southeast Pamlico
Volunteer Fire Department, will be making a presentation to us on the
use of the AED machine. AED’s have been placed in all Oriental
restaurants. And although they have easy to read directions on the
device itself, in a stressful time it is nice to already be familiar
with the lifesaving device. And then, there’s your chance to win a $20
Brantleys Restaurant gift certificate.

BIT BUCKET
– From Bill Schrader K2TNO: If you lived in the NYC area in the post-war
era, you no doubt recall Harrison Radio, Arrow Electronics, Radio Row
down on Cortlandt Street in downtown Manhattan.  Even if you are a Noob,
take a gander at https://youtu.be/3wc6SAtPBtI?feature=shared  Watch W1TR
reminisce about NY ham radio in the old days. You will see a slew of
things to remember!
– The 4th meeting of the Pamlico 10 Meter Net is tonight, Monday
11/13/23, on 28.464 MHz plus or minus depending on band conditions. This
is an informal forum originally established to assist our new Hams on a
frequency in the 10M voice segment open to technician licensees.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday. There is a
chance for M-class flares each day. There are 5 numbered sunspot regions
on the Sun are facing Earth this morning. There were 5 last Monday, 4
the Monday before.

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 137.
Last Sunday’s was 155. The index is predicted to measure 135 today, 130
Tuesday and 125 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 148
yesterday. It was 149 last Sunday.

The geomagnetic field was quiet to active Sunday. The SWPC expects the
field to again quiet to active today then quiet to unsettled Tuesday and
Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 7 am this morning was 1.67
indicating quiet conditions.

Today and tomorrow, propagation is expected to be poor on the 80 through
40 meter bands during the day, fair at night.  Good conditions during
both day and night are expected for the 30, 20, 17 and 15 meter bands.
Ten and 12 propagation is predicted to be fair to poor.

We had about the same conditions predicted last Monday and on through
the week. Nonetheless, there was enough solar action to bring us some
good DX… Botswana, Bangladesh, Timor-Leste, Cameroon, Malawi and more
were either worked or heard here. Now’s the time–the Dxpeditions are
out there.

For an explanation of the numbers used in our PARSgram, see the
excellent article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at
