PARS’ FIELD DAY
Here’s the plan, from President Bruce, K4ONC:
PARS has reserved the Oriental Recreation Park for Field Day on the 27th
from 1000 to 2000hrs. My plan is to have as many folks as possible
participate after our PARS meeting on that Saturday. It is not formal ie
no planned BBQ. Those that would like to set up their radios/antennas or
just show up, may! Those that do participate may bring their own
munchies and drinks. Those that stay during the dinner hour can go pick
up food at Brantley’s, Silos or wherever.
This entire event will depend on the weather! If the forecast is for
high temps and humidity, all bets are off. But if the weather looks OK,
what the heck, let’s give it a shot!
73, Bruce
NET NEWS
Monday night Pamlico C4FM Net: On June 8th Nine folks participated in
the round-table hosted by KO4OJC (KR4LO, KR4ABZ, WM3X, AI4WL, K1AUG,
AC2GR, KM4PA-Brevard and KM4COD). The chatter was interesting. It closed
at 8:44pm! For local users via RF the repeater’s on 145.390MHz. Remote
users can join via the Wires-X room–for now it’s still “KO4OJC-Room 3”
(ID 64163).
For the Communications/Emergency Net last Wednesday, June 10th, Jim
AI4WL, substituting for Mike AB1OU who was away, recorded 15 WinLink and
20 voice check-ins. Two of the voice were by EchoLink: Bill K2TNO and
Wayne Mulligan K1CBI. (Wayne is our our most distant member now living
in Agawam, MA (near Springfield)). After check-in and without prior
notice, Jim called for members to QSY to the emergency/back-up repeater
and respond to a call–the repeater’s frequency and tone had recently
been changed. Only one reported a possible programming issue. All
reported the repeater signal as strong. The most distant responder was
in Cove City.
Yes, there was a DownEast/Pamlico Six Meter net last Thursday. We
understand that several made the net, discussion brief. Use any antenna
that will resonate and join us if you can, Thursdays at 8pm on 50.200
MHz USB. BTW, we’re using horizontal polarization.

The SIX METER BAND Summer E-layer skip season has arrived in earnest and
just in time for the ARRL VHF contest. Early last week, Monday and
Tuesday, we found the Magic Band open into Europe and busy state-side
from morning to late evening. Over the weekend, and especially Sunday
afternoon, the FT8 slice of the band was jammed during the contest. The
scores should be high this year.
