Six folks participated in the July 27th Monday night Pamlico C4FM
round-table hosted by KO4OJC (KR4LO, KR4ABZ, AI4WL, KO4COD, and KM4PA
from Brevard). More rain reports, a newish truck that won’t charge,
ongoing work to finish Bill’s new house and operating on 6M were all the
issues of the evening. For local users via RF, the repeater’s on
145.390MHz. Remote users can join via the Wires-X room, for now it’s
still “KO4OJC-Room 3” (ID 64163).
For the Communications/Emergency Net last Wednesday, July 29th, we
recorded 16 WinLink and 21 voice check-ins. With Louise out of town,
Wayne KO4OJC was the net-controller. EchoLink check-ins included Louise
KR4CYB up by Glade Valley, Bill K4ONN just off the golf course in
Bermuda Run, Bill K2TNO Greensboro, Lor W3QA from his “farm” across the
line in Virginia and Paul KM4PA from Brevard. Several others were
short-time or mobile. After check-in “available” local members were
asked to respond to a FM call on the Wayne’s World KO4OJC repeater–our
current backup repeater. The no-notice test resulted in 9 of 12 stations
responding.
Five checked-in to the DownEast/Pamlico 6 Meter net on last Thursday
evening (WA4GSI, K4ONC, AI4WL, KO4OJC and KR4CYB). Charlie WA4GSI kept
the net on a fast pace. We talked about getting Charlie’s new antenna up
on his garage, the September Kershaw tower climb, WinLink forms for
EMCOMM, Louise’s road trip, lawn mowing and Charlie’s British car social
coming up on August 15th–quite a mixed bag. Join us if you can. Come as
you are. Thursdays at 8pm on 50.200 MHz USB.
SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday with a slight
chance for M-class flares.
There were 6 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth yesterday
at noon. There were 6 last Sunday.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 127,
last Sunday’s was 148. The index is predicted to measure 125 today, 120
Tuesday, 115 Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 132
yesterday. It was 133 last Sunday.
The Magic Band was very active last week through Thursday afternoon,
then it went quiet. There’s still a few stations to be found during the
day on FT8. We hope the exceptional 2026 Summer Es season and the
European DX is not coming to an end. We’ll keep checking, expect bursts
of activity, some long and some short, through the month.
The geomagnetic field reached major storm levels yesterday. The SWPC
expects the field to reach minor storm levels today, be quiet to
unsettled Tuesday, then quiet on Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5
a.m. this morning was 2.67 indicating unsettled conditions.
Current conditions (1057Z/03Aug26): Fair day on 80 and 40 Meters, good
at night; good day and night on 30 & 20; good day and night 17 & 15;
fair day, poor at night on 12 and 10. 6M Meteor scatter/tropo US, Es EU.

through August 17. Activity will focus on 6 meters using various modes.
–T2, TUVALU. Aki, JK1JXZ, will be QRV as T2JK from Funafuti from July
30 through August 7. Activity will be on 80 through 6 meters using
various modes.
–VK9W, WILLIS ISLAND. Sands, VK4WXW, is QRV as VK9WX through late
October. Activity is on 40 through 10 meters, SSB and FT8.
