PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS NET (WEDNESDAY NIGHT NET)
The Winlink exercise for this week’s Pamlico Communications Net [16
September 2026] will be to complete and send a Local Weather Report.
This form is located at the bottom of the Standard Forms list. As
always, please send prior to 1800 hours on Wednesday and use VARA HF if
possible. If not, Telnet is acceptable.
For this weeks training we are going to practice with GMRS. As with
simplex, I would like participants to make note of who they can hear
with a signal report and if you are using an HT or mobile (base) radio
We will operate off the local GMRS repeater on the Kershaw tower on
Channel 29 / Repeater 7, RX is at 462.700 and TX is 467.700. I will be
operating the Net from Station 19.

NET NEWS
Seven folks participated in the Monday night Wayne’s World C4FM
round-table on Sep 7th. Besides Wayne KO4OJC, they included KM4PA,
KR4LO, KR4ABZ, AC2GR, AI4WL, and KR4COD. Paul visited Cape Cod. Bill and
Wayne found the Baird Creek GMRS repeater had good coverage. Their
operational test did not indicate it to be greater in any direction.
Through the trees, Jim’s Starlink data rate has been 590Kbps up and
480Kbps down on standby, enough for email. Mike gets around 100Mbps with
his Starlink 4xMini out in Stacy. Wayne’s been updating controllers for
Kershaw. He’s working toward onsite Wires-X and Echolink connectivity.
The net closed around 8:40pm. For local users via RF, the repeater’s on
145.390MHz. Remote users can join via the Wires-X room, it’s still
“KO4OJC-Room 3” (ID 64163).
On Wednesday, Bruce, K4ONC, our PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS NET controller
for September, recorded 18 WinLink check-ins, 11 by RF, 7 by Telnet.
Later, 20 checked in by voice via the Oriental repeater. Of the 20, Bill
K2ONN, Paul KM4PA, John KR4LEW, and Bill K2TNO were via EchoLink.
Bruce was operating at the Pamlico Community College (PCC)–the location
of the county evacuation center when it’s activated. Jim AI4WL was at
Station 19. The goals that night were to confirm connectivity between
the two sites on simplex as well as ascertain the connectivity of those
who checked in via RF with the two stations via simplex. Participants
were also asked to keep a list of and report those stations that they
heard during the simplex test. Two RF stations did not participate,
eleven did. As for results, it appears that one station in Fairfield
Harbor had difficulty communicating with PCC and Station 19. One
operator in Whortonsville on an HT could only work Station 19 and a
station in Oriental could hear but not be heard at the PCC. The rest
could communicate with both the PCC and Station 19.
Only Bruce K4ONC and Jim AI4WL joined Charlie WA4GSI on Thursday, Sep
10th for the DOWNEAST/PAMLICO COUNTY 6M Net. Charlie reported success
getting his (old) new antenna system up and running… finally. To ward
off any remaining possible gremlins, he has arranged for a special,
maybe first ever, “Blessing of the Antenna” [more elsewhere].
BLESSING OF THE ANTENNA
Due to many problems encountered during installation, I felt this Tri-
Beam Mosley antenna needed some divine help. Therefore next Thursday
morning, the 17th, there will be a Blessing of the Antenna performed by
Rick, NN2S, at my house on 1121 Neuse Drive at 10:00 am. Hopefully,
this will get this antenna of to a good start. All hams are invited.
