PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS TEAM MEETING REPORT

The Pamlico Communications Team (PCT) met on Saturday, December 4th,

2021 at the Florence-Whortonsville FD at 0900 for their monthly meeting.

The meeting was called to order at approx 0915 hrs by Bruce Perkins,

K4ONC. Present were the following: Bill Olah, KR4LO; Wayne Mulligan,

K1CBI; Bill Cresswell, K2ONN; Jim Hartmeyer, AI4WL; Ben Barnett, KI4NSO;

Mike Marsh, K4NLC; and Lor Kutchins, W3QA. Absent, due to a fire call in

Stonewall, Gary Mitchelson, NC3Z and Joe Lupton, N4IBX.

The initial discussion revolved around Winlink and the Sitrep and

mapping. A power point presentation had been prepared for this

discussion but was unable to be shown due to uncontrolled circumstances.

The presentation will be made in a future meeting.

The discussion then turned to the major topic, the EHPC CommEx to be

executed on Thursday, December 9th. Lor Kutchins took the lead on this

discussion. The CommEx will include folks from Public Safety

(Police/Fire), Health Care (Hospitals) and AUXCOMM, from throughout

Eastern North Carolina. The exercise is to begin at 1000hrs and conclude

at 1430 hrs local. With a “Hotwash” from 1430 hrs to approx. 1500 hrs

via WebEx. Many of the Pamlico Communications Team members will be

operating from their home with a few stationed at the

Florence-Whortsonville FD. Most modes of communications will be in play.

Therefore, it is requested that all radio traffic on the N4ONC Oriental

repeater, 147.210, be restricted to the CommEx during the hours of 0800

to 1500 hrs. on Thursday, Dec. 9th. Any emergency traffic is exempt.

In addition, there will NOT be a Pamlico Communications Net on

Wednesday, December 8th at 1930hrs. This Net will resume on December

15th at 1930hrs.

Any questions may be directed to me at K4ONC@aol.com or at 252-626-2730.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported solar activity was MODERATE during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The largest solar event was a M1 flare

at 0719Z. The most recent event was a C1-class flare at 06/0622Z. There

are three reported numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this

morning. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be very low

today through Wednesday with a chance for an M-class flare today and

C-class flares possible Tuesday and Wednesday. On Sunday the observed

Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was 83. (Last Sunday it was 92.) The

index is predicted to measure 82 today and then 80 tomorrow and

Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average is down one to 87.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. NOAA

expects conditions to be quiet to unsettled today and Tuesday and then

quiet Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 1 reported at 7 a.m. local

this morning reflects our current quiet geomagnetic conditions.

We can expect fair day and good nighttime operating conditions today on

80 and 40 meters, fair on 30 and 20, and poor on the higher bands. Last

evening and this morning, DXMaps reported light activity on 6 meters.

Most contacts were made using meteor scatter. We expect VHF activity to

remain light until later in the month and the Winter Es season begins.

excellent article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at

ABOUT THE PARSgram

The PARSgram is a weekly email publication for members of the Pamlico

Amateur Radio Society (PARS), an association of amateur radio operators

located in, near, or from Pamlico County, North Carolina.  The PARSgram

contains announcements and information about current and planned

activities of the Society and other items of specific interest to its

members.  Except to summarize information related to Solar Activity and

announce expeditions of amateur radio operators to unique distant

places, special event stations, and contests, it does not generally

repeat information available elsewhere. The PARSgram offers a means to

make known to its subscribers radio equipment and other related items

for sale or trade.  Since PARS members may have limited internet access,

the PARSgram has no attachments and kept relatively short.  Log on to

the PARS Website at https://www.n4prs.org/ for longer news articles,

photos, archived PARSgrams and more. We are always looking for items of

specific interest to our members to put in the PARSgram.  If you run

across a timely item or think of something you think would interest our

folks, please send it to me at jth350@embarqmail.com.
