SO WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

We recently heard from long time PARS member Dennis Had,

W4UnitedStatesRadio. He and Donna are still in Cary and enjoying

retirement. Well, for “Denny Dentron”, retirement isn’t really retired.

In his spare time he’s handcrafting made to order high-end tube

amplifiers for audiophile perfectionists. You will be wowed by this

YouTube review of his latest creation at:

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 4 numbered sunspot regions

on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 5 last Monday. The

Prediction Center expects solar activity to continue to be low today

through Wednesday.

At noon yesterday, the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was

  1. Last Sunday it was 108. The index is predicted to measure 130 at

noon today, tomorrow and Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was

129 yesterday, up two from last Sunday.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field reached active levels yesterday. It is

expected to be quiet to active today, tomorrow and on Wednesday. The

estimated Kp-index of 2 reported at 5 a.m. local this morning indicated

quiet geomagnetic conditions.

Although the Sun may have been quiet, the HF bands were jammed over the

weekend for the CQ World-Wide DX SSB Contest. DXCC could be had easily

over those two days. It took less than fifteen minutes to work nine

European countries on 20 Meters yesterday afternoon with 80 watts and a

wire antenna.

Checking propagation this morning- 2612 Miles per watt

ZL3DMH 8795 Miles @ 3.75 Watts -15db FT8 on 20M at 1148Z/31 Oct using a

QDX SDR XVR.

We can expect fair to good operating conditions on the HF bands 80

through 15, fair day and poor night on 12 and 10 meters.
