SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending Sunday at 5 p.m. local. There are 7 numbered sunspot regions on
the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 7 last Monday, 8 the
Monday before. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low
today and Tuesday with a 1 in 3 chance for M-class flares and a slight
chance for an X-class flare. It’s expected to be low on Wednesday with a
chance for M-class flares.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 168.
Last Sunday’s was 157. The index is predicted to measure 163 Monday, 160
Tuesday and 160 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 152
yesterday. It was 153 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled Sunday. Conditions are
expected to be quiet to unsettled again today and Tuesday then quiet on
Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 am this morning was 1.33
indicating quiet conditions.
For the next few days, HF conditions are expected to range from poor to
fair on 80 through 15 during the day, fair at night. The best conditions
during the day and night are likely to be found on the 17 and 15 meter
bands. Twelve and 10 meters should be fair during the day, poor at night.
Six meters is getting active. At 8 pm local Sunday dxmaps showed lots of
US 6 meter Es activity and several mutihop Es contacts between the
US/Mexico and Japan. We need six to get hot. The ARRL June VHF contest
is next weekend.

HF bands and 6 meters using SSB and FT8. He may soon be active
using RTTY. QSL to home call.
–LAKSHADWEEP ISLANDS, VU7. Yuris, YL2GM will be QRV as VU7W from
Minicoy Island, IOTA AS-106, from June 6 to 18. Activity will be on
the HF bands and 6 meters using CW, SSB, and FT8. QSL direct to
home call.
