The Eastern Branch Office in Kinston is hosting its 2026 Amateur Radio
Emergency Communications Open House from 10AM to 2PM on Saturday, July
11th. Like last year’s event, expect this to be an informative event for
all amateur radio operators who want to support emergency communications
in preparation for the Hurricane Season: come see the EBO comm center,
the EHPC comms van, hear about current plans based on H. Helene lessons
learned and connect with fellow radio operators and emergency management
leaders. Reservations are required for the meeting at the EBO located at

NET NEWS
Monday night Pamlico C4FM Net: On June 29th seven folks participated in
the round-table hosted by KO4OJC (KR4LO, KR4ABZ, AI4WL, K4HPS, WM3X and
AC2GR). Saga of the Taco Tower, Wires-X stability, Tempest Weather
Stations, field day results and more made the table. The net closed at
8:23pm. For local users via RF, the repeater’s on 145.390MHz. Remote
users can join via the Wires-X room, for now it’s still “KO4OJC-Room 3”
(ID 64163).
For the Communications/Emergency Net last Wednesday, July 1st, we
recorded 13 WinLink and 19 voice check-ins. Louise KR4CYB was again our
substitute net controller. Greenville-Bill K2TNO and John KR4LEW checked
in by EchoLink. Normally, that’s not a big deal, this time it was. John
checked in using his cell while on a Cruise Ship docked in Scotland UK.
It was 12:41a his time. The connection was solid. He hopes to check-in
again during a very enviable European excursion. The Wayne-Louise duo
will continue to share control duty in July. Charlie-O WA4GSI is
scheduled for August.
Only four members checked-in to the DownEast/Pamlico 6 Meter net on July
2nd (WA4GSI, K4ONC, AI4WL, and N1IG). The annual 13 Colonies Special
Event was the topic. Now underway, it runs until July 7th.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was high during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be moderate today and Tuesday with a slight
chance for an X-class flare each day. On Wednesday it is likely to be
low with a slight chance for an M-class flare. Radio blackouts reaching
the R2 level are expected on Earth’s sunlit side today.
There were 8 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth yesterday
at noon. There were 6 last Sunday.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 139,
last Sunday’s was 186. The index is predicted to measure 130 today, 120
Tuesday and 125 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 131
yesterday. It was 127 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field reached minor storm levels yesterday. The SWPC
expects the field to be quiet to active today and quiet on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this morning was 1.67
indicating quiet conditions.

at night; good day and night on 30 & 20; good day and night 17 & 15;

through July 11. JR6HYO will join during the second half of the
operation and will be QRV as JR6HYO/JD1. Activity will be on 160 through
6 meters using CW, SSB, and FT8.
