Monday night Pamlico C4FM Net: On July 6th six folks participated in the
round-table hosted by KO4OJC (KR4LO, KR4ABZ, KM4PA, KR4COD and AC2GR).
What do you do when the air conditioner dies… backup AC was the topic.
For local users via RF, the repeater’s on 145.390MHz. Remote users can
join via the Wires-X room, for now it’s still “KO4OJC-Room 3” (ID 64163).
For the Communications/Emergency Net last Wednesday, July 8th, we
recorded 17 WinLink and 22 voice check-ins. Louise KR4CYB handled the
net. Pete AG7C, Greenville-Bill K2TNO, Paul KM4PA from Tysons, VA and
John KR4LEW checked in by EchoLink. Our long distance winner was again
John, this time from Dover, England. It was 1:30am his time. He was
quickly in and out. Louise had the local check-ins switch to the KO4OJC
repeater and report how the two repeaters compared–for most about the
same, signals strong, audio loud and clear.
Five folks checked-in to the DownEast/Pamlico 6 Meter net on July 9th
(WA4GSI, K4ONC, AI4WL, N2PZG and N1IG). We talked about the extreme
heat, Wednesday’s thunderstorm, and signal propagation on the magic band.
BIT BUCKET-
* Paul Jodoin K4MMB has finally put away the books and practice tests
and’s back on the air. Before lunch last Thursday he passed his extra
exam. Surprise surprise, by the next evening he no longer needed the
/AE. His upgrade had already been issued. Congratulations OM, well done.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today with a chance for M-class flares
and then likely to be low with a slight chance of M-class flares Tuesday
and Wednesday.
There were 4 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth yesterday
at noon. There were 8 last Sunday.
During the past week the six meter band had daily openings into the
mid-west, occasionally to the left coast; TEP into Central and South
America.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 107,
last Sunday’s was 139. The index is predicted to measure 110 today and
Tuesday, 115 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 132
yesterday. It was 131 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field reached minor storm levels yesterday. The SWPC
expects the field to be quiet to active today and Tuesday quiet to
unsettled on Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this morning was
1.67 indicating quiet conditions.
Current conditions (1037Z/13July26): Fair day on 80 and 40 Meters, good
at night; good day and night on 30 & 20; fair day and night 17 & 15;
